A clay pigeon shooter fires high into the skyAlso known as ‘DTL’, Down the Line is an incredibly popular clay shooting discipline. Clay targets are thrown from an oscillating trap to a distance of between 45 and 50 metres at a fixed height of approximately 2.75m and with a horizontal 'spread' of up to 22 degrees either side of the centre line.

DTL is a formal clay shooting discipline, and is shot in squads of 5 competitors. Each competitor occupies one of 5 stands, and shoots at a single target in turn, but without moving from the stand until he or she has all shot at five targets. All competitors then move one place to the right, and continue to do so until they have all completed a standard round of 25 birds. Each target scores 3 points for a first barrel kill, 2 points for a second barrel kill and 0 for a miss (maximum 75 points per round).

Doveridge Shotgun Academy will be hosting a DTL layout in the Mitsubishi Motors Clay Shooting Festival at the Midland Game Fair in September. Click here to find out how to pre-book discounted shooting packages.
