The Pointer - The gundog in general is known for his intelligence; and the pointer breeds are no exception. Like the retriever, the pointer is a type of gundog that is used to find game.
The name pointer comes from the dog’s natural instinct to keep its body rigidly still whilst ‘pointing’ its muzzle and body towards the direction of game. Whilst being directed to its location, the hunter is then able to move into gun range and make his shot.
Athletic and graceful, the pointer is also extremely responsive and highly enthusiastic, bounding with energy and eagerly ready to assist his owner. His markings are pronounced and his stance is well defined; a very powerful gundog that is marked by a deep-set muzzle and thick neck, with a quick to catch scent that will point the hunter in the right direction.
