Discover Your Countryside – Countryside Walks
It’s no secret that England is home to some of the most beautiful countryside walkways in the world. From scenic rambles along idyllic country paths, to unspoilt hikes set deep in the very heart of rural England, today’s countryside is vast, open to all and waiting to be explored.
The Peak District is an upland area in central and northern England and best known as 'walking country', offering spectacular scenery and routes that are crying out to be discovered, from the steep-sided limestone dales to the dramatic high moorlands, the Peaks are a favourite for those wanting a light stroll to those after a more strenuous hike. National and local trails within The Peaks stretch over an impressive 202 square miles – all of which is completely open access land, allowing you to truly indulge in all of its natural beauty. Whether it is the 268mile Pennines Way National Trail or the 55 miles long world heritage site of the Derwent Valley Heritage Way, both experienced and newbie walkers have routes and paths right at their feet.
Further north-west of the Peaks, The Lake District is the largest of the thirteen national parks within England and Wales and lies mostly within the county of Cumbria. With Scafell Pike, its highest mountain Wastwater, 12 of the largest lakes in England, along with places like Keswick, Bowness-on-Windermere and over 3,500 kilometres of rights of way there's something for everyone!
