The Environment Agency is responsible for protecting and improving communities within England and Wales. Working with others, the Agency aims to provide 'a better place to live' in and around the home 'a better place to work' within the business and industry sector and 'a better place for all', aiming to make the community as a whole a much more receptive place through dedicated planning and research schemes.

An Executive Non-departmental Public Body, the Environment Agency is also responsible to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and an Assembly Sponsored Public Body responsible to the National Assembly for Wales. With their aim of making the community a better place for everyone, the Agency also takes responsibility in protecting communities from the risk of flooding, managing water resources through active involvement and effective management strategies.
