Land Management
Discover Your Countryside – Land Management
Land management is the process of managing land and the development of resources, for use in a sustainable way. Essential to our most natural of environments and for purposes like agriculture and farming to water resource management and reforestation, projects which work to aid England’s most natural of environments can then be secured for future generations to come.
To ensure that these aims are met, and that the generations that precede us can enjoy England’s rich geology, we must significantly improve the protection of our most sacred of lands and manage them effectively so we can continue to conserve what we have today. Improving the condition of the natural environment is essential to ensure that everyone benefits from the services it provides.
As with any conservation work, land management requires a full understanding of its ecology, environment as well as wildlife law and its policies. It is through these natural environments, that we are able to enjoy a wide range of important benefits (called ecosystem services), including clean water and air, healthy food, recreation and inspiration. However, increasing pressures on such areas are threatening such vital services.
Various associations and bodies work to promote land management within our natural environments, educating others on the benefits that such work has on our open spaces. For more information about how you can get involved in the preservation and conservation of land, visit the Natural England’s website at www.naturalengland.org.uk where you can take advantage of their free advisory service too.
