Whilst we can celebrate a country rich in nature and native woods, it is also necessary to impress that various trees and plant species are crucial to life on our planet and without them we couldn’t manage carbon, provide oxygen or encourage other types of wildlife to its areas.

The UK’s trees and plants are some of the most beautiful anywhere in the world, and as well as the visual appeal they provide, they also fulfil important environmental functions. Woodlands in particular attract all sorts of wildlife and provide necessary shade for insects, animals and plants in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours. Trees and wooded areas also allow both wildlife and different kinds of plant species to adapt and survive in what is otherwise quite a fragmented and pressurised environment.

The Woodland Trust is a UK based conservation charity that works to manage and protect our most natural of habitats. One of their on-going initiatives is the planting of native trees – aiming to secure various types of tree and plant species and encourage new wooded areas for years to come. On average, it can take 12 years to produce trees such as oak, ash, hazel and rowan, and their campaign to encourage planting in local areas is a fantastic way for people to get involved whilst putting back into their environment too.
