Discover Your Countryside – Wildlife Conservation
Wildlife Conservation is the preservation, protection and restoration of all types of wildlife and their environments. In the UK today, our game and wildlife continues to be researched and monitored by a huge number of trusts and organisations, helping to safeguard its future and to ensure both game and wildlife can thrive as independently as they possibly can.
The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) is the UK’s leading charity that conducts scientific research into developing and researching our British countryside, and for 75 years have campaigned and developed strategies and projects to enhance the UK’s game and wildlife population for all to enjoy. A big part of many conservation associations and bodies involves managing and sustaining current wildlife issues in order to keep them in the public sphere. It is by actively raising awareness of the various different wildlife threats to both the public and the government that remains a central aspect of their role.
The Wildlife Trust (TWT) is an established conservation charity that has been in existence since 1912. Now, the Trust oversees around 47 local wildlife trusts that currently cover the UK, conducting and managing data on a more detailed level. With more than 800,000 members on their books, today’s trusts are able to champion projects at grassroots level with campaigns like the Otters and Rivers Project, the water quality project River Watch and the Dormouse Re-introduction Programme, all successful examples of work which has made a lasting difference to UK wildlife.
The Wildlife Trust is now an established active voice for nature in the UK, promoting wildlife and the environment as essential to a healthier place for human beings. In order to conduct much of their research, the Trust deals with people from many walks of life including those in industry, government, landowners, communities and families, constantly campaigning for better protection of our precious wildlife and habitats.
