Skinner's International Retriever World Cup returns to the Highclere Game and Country Fair
The most prestigious working test for gundogs in the world, the Skinner's International Retriever World Cup is the largest in the world and welcomes teams from across the globe ready to compete.
Consisting of two days of stringent tests, each set to challenge both dog and handler, the championship generates a great deal of interest from enthusiasts worldwide, along with a determined, competitive spirit between the teams.
This year's championship involves each country entering one team of four dogs, all set to challenge the best dogs and handlers from an International field. Simulating shooting in the field, blanks are fired and canvas dummies are thrown into the course to test the metal of even the sharpest of gundog.
In 2010, all-female team Sweden won the championship event with the competition seeing a record number of teams wanting to compete. One not to be missed, the 2010 championship also saw England achieve a well-deserved 2nd place, as they narrowly missed out on the chance to take their trophy wins to four.
With the Highclere Game and Country Fair attracting a whole host of gundog related events across the weekend, including the Mitsubishi Motors World Series Gundog Championship and the Countryman's Weekly Champion of Champions Terrier and Lurcher events, Highclere is a fantastic treat for all gundog related activity.
