Game and Country Fair News: World Hunter Field Target Championships returns to the Kelmarsh Game and Country Fair
The headline event will take part in the expanded Airgun Expo, attracting some of the finest HFT competitors from across Europe. After the hugely successful debut of this most prestigious event at the Kelmarsh Game and Country Fair in 2009, this year's championship promises to be as competitive as before with a staggering 257 entries already confirmed for this 2011 season.
Last year's championship certainly provided some gripping viewing, with the Championship decided after a tense 3-way shoot. A thoroughly deserving Mark Wall from Wales stole victory in the Open Class category with an outstanding 2nd day performance from the 1st day's leader Ryan Charlton in second, with Pete Dutton taking third.
In the Junior Class, 15 year old local lad Greg Hensman took 1st place with Cameron Casey and Craig Lord taking second and third. In the Recoiling class, England's Patrick Fitzgerald went on take the first place for Weirauch with Colin Wilkinson and Steve Whiting also dominating the class.
In the Ladies Class, the contest was made all the more interesting with the variety of different rifles they chose to compete with. The top three places saw Steph Kirkwood and her Steyr rifle claim the top spot, battling it out with in-form Janine Travers, who came second with her Air Arms, and the former 2007 UKAHFT Ladies Champion Jane Sparkes taking third position, shooting her Daystate.
In the final .22” Placings, Simon Jones won first place shooting with his Air Arms with Matthew Rawlings and Johnny Smith taking second and third place respectively.
