Gundog Scurries - Hopping Hare Gundog Scurry

The Hopping Hare Gundog ScurryThe Hopping Hare Gundog Scurry will identify in seconds whether the many hours of dedicated training have instilled the most basic of gundog skills - self control. How many times has your dog sat patiently beside you throughout countless game drives, marking each bird with eagle-eyed precision, looking longingly at you for it to be their turn, yet waiting obediently to be called into action. Always obedient, never questioning your authority, knowing that one day it will be their turn, and when it is they'll deserve it. This is not practice, this is not one of the many gundog scurries they've entered over the summer. This is the real thing.

Then the time comes, a tremendous shot lands a high bird, but the mark is perfect and the bird lies still, the Keeper signals then end of the drive and that moment finally arrives - you raise your hand towards the target bird and softly issue those eagerly anticipated instructions "get on". The hours of patient and persistent training has paid off, your dog leaps into action with boundless enthusiasm, and a single minded mission to retrieve the prize for its master.

Then something potentially disastrous occurs that alters the balance between success and failure, and there's nothing you can do but watch. A fully grown hare makes a dash for freedom directly across the path of the retrieve. It's a split second decision that if wrong would ordinarily cost you a little ribbing from your friends. However, in this case could cost you the chance of winning a brand new Mitsubishi ASX worth £18,000LP! The Hopping Hare Gundog Scurry is a new addition to the portfolio of gundog scurries that qualify for the 2011 Mitsubishi Motors World Series Gundog Championship.

Although the description above is a little melodramatic to say the least, the Hopping Hare Gundog Scurry is actually very straightforward. It has been introduced along with the Short Fence Gundog Scurry in place of some of the more complicated gundog scurries, which can often favour more experienced dogs. Countryman Fairs gundog scurries are designed to provide all handlers with a fair chance of winning prizes, whether your dog is a seasoned competitor, or entering it's first ever gundog scurry.

This gundog scurry is designed to test your dogs ability to retrieve one simple marked retrieve with a distraction. You will sit your Dog unrestrained and a dummy will be thrown for your dog. After you have been told to send your dog, a dummy covered in fur will be released on a elastic cord. This simulated 'hare' will pass in front of your dog. This is were your skill will come in. Can you get your dog to pick the seen dummy or your dog prefer to chase the hare?
