Despite over 4 inches of snow across the weekend over 22,000 country sports enthusiasts’ turned up their collars, donned their Wellington boots and celebrated the start of the game fair season at Kelmarsh Country Fair.

Field sports enthusiasts from across the country battled it out in a myriad of different sports for their chance to win a share of the £200,000.00 prize fund on offer across Countryman Fairs group of events. In the Mitsubishi Motors World Seires the headline action of the weekend saw Cheryl Beacham enter for the first time, qualify and was then drawn at random to win a brand new Mitsubishi Colt CZ1 worth £7499.00 LP.

In the inaugural UK Multi-Discipline Casting Championship 16 year old Robert Richardson battled away from the first thing Sunday Morning to last thing Monday evening and set a course record in the final to be crown UK Multi-Discipline Casting Champion 2007 and win the second Mitsubishi Colt of the weekend.

In the other field sports competitions on offer record numbers of young shooters competed in the Junior Airgun Championship and eleven handlers chalked up the first points in the Richa Premier Gundog League, run across the Hart Gundog Scurries.

Not all the action was in the field sports competitions, one licky visitor was always set to win a third brand new Mitsubishi Colt just for being at Kelmarsh Coutnry Fair. That lucky visitor was undergraduate Christina Voakes. Christina was drawn at random from hundreds of entrants for her chance to win the car. She went on to draw the lucky keys in the Main Arena for the third brand new Colt of the weekend.

Our visitor feedback overwhelmingly indicates that over 90% of our visitors rated Kelmarsh Country Fair as Good, Very Good, or Excellent. Mr. Emmerson of Rugby won a fabulous pair of Irish Setter Shooting Boots donated by Footwear Country. Mr. Emmerson simply filled in our visitor feedback form and returned it to our office address letting us know his thoughts.

Developments are already being implemented for 2009, including expanding the Gunmakers Row, Gamekeepers Row and Kelmarsh Angling Festival.
